Malibu Methodist Nursery School's philosophy of education and caring for young children is well known throughout Malibu and beyond. The centerpiece of this philosophy is the principle that children learn in an environment that is rich in "hands-on" explorations, with staff guidance that is supportive and that encourages risk taking, reflection, problem-solving and individuality.
We believe that a structured and formal learning introduced too early does not prepare children for a creative and rapidly changing world, nor does it provide a solid conceptual foundation for future academic experiences. Therefore, we provide a curriculum that flows from the children's needs and interests rather than one imposed upon them by us.
Over the years we have maintained our philosophy by providing teachers trained specifically to work with pre-school-aged children. Several training films have been produced here for use in Southern California university teacher education programs. In consonance with the heterogeneous heritage of our country, we support a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment for our children. We accept any child who we believe can benefit from our program.
MMNS is licensed by the California Department of Social Services, which has authority to observe and inspect both the physical environment and the physical condition of the children, including conditions which could indicate abuse, neglect or inappropriate placement. http://www.dds.ca.gov/complaints.
